Robert W. Diehl, 90 residing in Huron, died Friday, May 12, 2017, in Stein Hospice Care Center.

He was born on August 10, 1926 in Erie, PA, and was a 1943 graduate of Oil City High School in Pennsylvania.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in WWII, where he worked on convoy duty in Italy and China, and served as a lifeguard in boot camp.

Robert was employed by the Pennsylvania Electric Co. as a lineman for 11 years.  He and his wife owned Coffman Optical in downtown Sandusky for over 30 years.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Sandusky, the V.F.W. Post 2529, Sandusky, Elks Lodge #285, and Petrolia Lodge #363 F. & A.M. in Pennsylvania for over 60 years. Robert loved golfing and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Anne (Davis) Diehl; daughter, Lesley (Richard) Sinwald, Sandusky; a special exchange student of whom Robert thought of as a daughter, Marie-Anne Devillers, Belgium; grandchildren, R.J. Sinwald and Shawna Crum; great-grandchildren, Chase, Jacob, Kayla, Calob, and Cayden; sister, Elizabeth Jane Speros, Erie, PA; and his dog companions, Molly, Greg, Olivia, and Bob.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Harriet (Brower) Diehl; sister, Eileen Mills; and brothers, Wesley in infancy and Edward “Bud” Diehl.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at 11 A.M. in Trinity United Methodist Church, 214 E. Jefferson St., Sandusky.  Pastor Douglas Winner will officiate. The American Legion Post 83 Color Guard will provide a military tribute and a luncheon will follow after the services at the church.  Memorial contributions may be made in Robert’s name to Stein Hospice Paws Up, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870, or to Trinity United Methodist Church.  Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky is handling the arrangements.  Condolences and gifts of sympathy may be made to the family by visiting www.toftfh.com.
