Wilene BrownNovember 27, 1943 ~ May 9, 2017 (age 73)
Wilene (Marshall) Brown, 73, of Columbus, OH and formerly of Sandusky, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 9, 2017.
She entered the world on Saturday, November 27, 1943 in Cartersville, GA, the sixth of eight children born to the union of Coleman Lee Marshall and Bertha Lee Hyatt Marshall. She was affectionately called "Wig" by her family and friends. It was a nickname given to her as a baby by one of her uncles. As a child, Wilene's family migrated from Georgia to Ohio where Wilene attended Perkins Local Schools, graduating in 1961. In 1963, she married Eddie Will Brown, a.k.a. "Adel," and their union brought forth their daughter, Yolonda Tonette, after twelve years.
In 1976, Wilene gave her life to Christ and served Him and her church faithfully. As a member of New Hope Church of God in Christ, she served as an usher, treasurer, choir member, district hospitality assistant, Sunday School teacher, and wherever else there was a need.
Throughout her lifetime, Wilene was employed several places, including Rieger Hotel, Ford Motor Company, and H&R Block as an executive tax preparer. Her best work experience was at Crane Rental Service when she was hired by Richard Decker as his Office Administrator. Mr. Decker saw her as more than an employee. He treated her as a friend, going above and beyond to care for and provide for her when her health began to decline.
Wilene was a person who loved unselfishly, gave sacrificially, and served faithfully. Even when she was not doing well herself, she would still do whatever she could for others. In 2011, after a setback in health, Wilene moved to Columbus, OH with her daughter. There, she joined the loving fellowship of Mt. Sinai Church of God in Christ. She was extremely grateful for the outpouring of love the members of Mt. Sinai gave to her and often spoke of it to her daughter and other friends and family.
Wilene will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Yolonda (David) Sanders, of Columbus, OH; her granddaughter, Tia Sanders, of Columbus, OH; her grandson, Tre Wilson, on Sacramento, CA Naval Base; two brothers, Coleman (Anita) Marshall a.k.a. "Fish" and Willie (Pat) Marshall a.k.a. "Bud," both of Sandusky; special niece, Tonya (James) Turner, of Sandusky; trusted and loyal friend, Beatrice Beckum, of Sandusky; longtime buddies, Osie Eldridge, of Kankakee, IL and Vermel Keys, of Columbus, OH; sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, and many more family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and five sisters, Mattie B. Brown a.k.a. "Mae," Lillie Sheppard, Lucy Bernice Irby a.k.a. "Big Irby," Maggie Josephine Golden a.k.a. "Phine," and Mildred A. Mickles.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 13 until time of funeral services at 11 a.m. in Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1215 Peirce St., Sandusky. Rev. Clayton E. Howard will officiate. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
